This year’s staging of ART ATTACK FESTIVAL marked the beginning of a new era for Kibera and other Ghettos concerts. The organizers of ART ATTACK FESTIVAL, GHETTO YOUTH FOCUS FOUNDATION (GYFF), planned to take the event into a new and exciting direction. Over the last 24 months, ART ATTACK FESTIVAL has developed a reputation as being one of the most exciting shows in Kibera.
“This year we will be celebrating two years of the event that has definitely proven itself as being one of the most consistent top quality live events in kibera and it is certainly the only show that brings the artists of kibera together. Therefore we are doing everything to lift the standards of the entire show as we move forward into a new and exciting era,” said Geoffrey Oyoo, Creative Director, GYFF.
The lineup for ART ATTACK FESTIVAL artists featured some of the most exciting performers who have graced the show. They include, Abel Mutua, smart joker, mammito, majimoto, Oyoo. Special congrats goes to all the artists like Virus who made an electrifying performance.
There was also an interesting photo exhibition that involved a showcase of beautiful kibera pictures. The exhibition was put in place by GYFF in partnership with ECLORE, an organization based in France.
ART ATTACK FESTIVAL stayed true to its reputation as being ‘the KIBERA Greatest Show OF ALL TME,’ but certain aspects of the show have improved to make the event more commercial since the audiences were made to buy tickets at kshs. 100 for adults and kshs 50 for the kids, and t shirts at kshs 500.
“ART ATTACK FESTIVAL is and will always be the Greatest slum Show and we are going to make it even greater. We are putting everything in place to make sure that the event grows in the right direction, we are making ART ATTACK FESTIVAL into a national brand, that’s why we are concentrating so much on publicity and marketing as you may have noticed,” said Simon Sikote, Chairperson GYFF.
ART ATTACK FESTIVAL went under the theme “Wachilia silaha Shikilia Talanta” meaning “Drop weapons and hold on your talents”. It is a message to the people living in the ghettos and especially the youths that they can use their talents to improve their lives rather engaging in crime and other vice. ART ATTACK FESTIVAL will be going to other ghettos in Kenya like Kawangare, Mathare, Korogocho, Majengo in Nyeri, Kondele in Kisumu, Mushomoroni in Mombasa and other regions that will be confirmed in the future.
